Place of origin
The city of Tabriz on the northern border of Persia has always been a melting pot of different ethnic and religious groups, due to its location at the crossing of numerous caravan routes. Although the city is located in eastern Azerbaijan, the dialect spoken in Tabriz is closely related to the Turkish language. At the bazaars in Tabriz, handicrafts and especially rugs from the surrounding villages were and are traded.
Patterns
The luxuriant flower motifs of this Tabriz are elegant and varied. The graceful vegetative symbols representing flowers, leaves and branches are artfully intertwined.
The embellished edging (border) forms a beautiful contrast to the center and creates a transition at the edge of the rug.
In the middle of the central field of this Tabriz is the symmetrical center, also called medallion. The design of the field is arranged in such a way that it gives the impression that the medallion is floating on the field.
The background of this Tabriz is off white. The border features pink, purplec and light blue. The pink center combines the colors light green and purplec.
Condition
You are not the first to appreciate this Tabriz. It has had owners before you who have cherished and used it. It was hand knotted about 1980. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it lovingly. Therefore it is in very good condition despite its age.
Material
The pile of this Tabriz has been hand-knotted from cork wool and silk. Cork wool is a particularly fine, almost velvety knotting yarn. Cork wool is taken from the neck, belly and the insides of the legs of the sheep and is of particularly high quality. The pattern of this Tabriz is highlighted with shiny pure silk, which is manually extracted from the cocoons of the silk moth. The silk elements create a shimmering contrast and let the colors, depending on the lighting, shine in different nuances. The weft threads of this cotton consist of [Material Schuss]. For the warp threads pure silk was used.
