Place of origin
We were inspired by the imaginative geometric patterns of the Lori rugs, when designing this rug. Lori rugs are a finer variant of the Gabbeh, which is knotted by the Luri, a tribe in southwest Persia (also Loristan). They are also known as Loribaft. The additional syllable "baft" literally means "knotted". Loribaft translates to Luri knotting.
In creating a modern interpretation of the Lori pattern we were particularly mindful of simplicity and minimalism. We have given the rugs a plain and monochrome design and a color scheme consisting of natural cream, brown and grey tones. From the pattern, you can make out the traditional stylized and geometric motifs from the everyday life of nomads, such as goats, camels, dogs, plants or people. The discreet geometric pattern and the jovial colors make for a pleasant, warm living atmosphere.
Patterns
This Schlingel is adorned with an impressive tree of life. The tree of life motif has been a popular motif in oriental rugs, pottery and other decorative objects for centuries. Since the symbol occurs in many different cultures around the world, its exact origin is unclear. According to the most popular opinion, it originates from ancient Mesopotamia. The characteristics of the tree have changed over the centuries. The importance attributed to the tree of life today is always a little different in different cultures and religions of the world. Almost all of them, however, attribute sacred characteristics to the Tree of Life.
In the world of yoga, it represents one of its outstanding spiritual symbols, rooting us in the ground and connecting us to the sky. The tree of life connects all forms of life with Mother Earth and the universe.
The background of this Schlingel is beige. The border features dark brown and beige.
Material
The pile of this Schlingel is made of high-quality virgin wool threads. The virgin wool is looped by hand around a carrier fabric made of cotton using an innovative process. This method is significantly less laborious than traditional knotting, so it speeds up the production process and allows for lower prices. The quality and durability of hand-looped rugs is striking relative to their price. The looping, however, does not allow for complicated patterns. That is why the patterns of hand-looped rugs are kept simple.
