Origin

This rug comes from Sarouk (also Sarouk, Saruk or Sarogh). Sarou is one of the most famous rug-weaving areas in Iran. Located in the western Persian province of Aarak, it includes the provinces of Arak, Djozan, Ghiasabad, Mahal, Malayer, Mohajeran, Sultanabad and Wiss. In Sarouk, Persian patterns of all types are knotted, some of them according to the customer's instructions. The neighboring Farahan as well as our own Sultanabad designs and the so-called Mir-i-Boteh pattern consisting of paisley motifs are also created with preference. The very good wool quality of the pile is typical for this type of carpet; because the new wool comes from the Persian highlands. However, the underlying warp and weft fabric is usually made of cotton. A blue weft thread is often found in old and antique carpets. The knots are very fine and the pile is relatively high.h.

The pile of this sarong is made of high quality Virgin wool hand-knotted. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties: Due to the natural fat content of the wool, the surface repels water droplets and is like this naturally impregnated against dirt. Wool also offers excellent Thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on the living climate and dampens the sound.
