Origin

Nain is one of the most famous carpet provenances (origin, provenance) in Iran. The city of Nain lies northwest of Isfahan and has an ancient weaving tradition. Before the Khadjar dynasty (1794 - 1925), the highest quality throws for nobles, so-called abas, were made here. Under the influence of Western culture, the traditional cover-up was replaced by the suit. The weavers shifted their business and began making rugs .

The rugs from Nain owe their distinctive patterns and color combinations in particular to the master Hadj Fatollah Habibian Naiini. He limited himself to less than ten colors when weaving and thus laid the foundation for the color composition of the rugs from Nain, which are still very popular today. There are four types of Nain carpets: Quality levels, which are given in Lah (the Persian word for layer). Lah describes the number of threads from which the chain is twisted. The more threads are used, the thicker the chain and therefore the knots and the lower the knotting density.
