Floral, round Chinese Tabriz, wine red with Medaillon and border

Place of origin

The pattern of this rug is inspired by the pattern of a classic Tabriz. However, this rug has been knotted in China. The city of Tabriz on the northern border of Persia has always been a melting pot of different ethnic and religious groups, due to its location at the crossing of numerous caravan routes. Although the city is located in eastern Azerbaijan, the dialect spoken in Tabriz is closely related to the Turkish language. At the bazaars in Tabriz, handicrafts and especially rugs from the surrounding villages were and are traded.

Patterns

The luxuriant flower motifs of this Tabriz are elegant and varied. The graceful vegetative symbols representing flowers, leaves and branches are artfully intertwined.

The round format of this hand-knotted Tabriz is very rare and is ideal for rooms with a round dining or living room table.

In the middle of the central field of this Tabriz is the symmetrical center, also called medallion. The design of the field is arranged in such a way that it gives the impression that the medallion is floating on the field.

The embellished edging (border) forms a glorious contrast to the center and creates a transition at the edge of the rug.

The background of this Tabriz is wine red. The border features dark blue, blue gray and olive green. The beige center combines the colors dark blue and blue gray.

Material

The pile of this Tabriz has been woven from so-called cork wool. Cork wool is a very fine thread, almost velvety to the touch. Cork wool is obtained from the neck, belly and inner sides of the sheep's legs and is of particularly high quality. The weft and warp threads of this Tabriz are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.
