Place of origin

The rug-making region of Bidgene is located in the province of South Azerbaijan in the northwest of Iran. Bidgene rugs are similar to Sarough rugs and are often confused with Saroughs. There are, however, some differences; Bidgene rugs tend to have a stiffer, rather planked feel. The colors also tend to be darker. Besides the dark, calm coloring, Bidgene rugs are characterized by the four-way symmetrical division of their geometrized floral patterns. This old Bidgene is more than 40 years old and a true collector's item.

Patterns

The luxuriant flower motifs of this Bidgene are elegant and varied. The graceful vegetative symbols representing flowers, leaves and branches are artfully intertwined.

The abstract, geometric composition creates the simple elegance of this Bidgene. The pattern flatters the design of the room and does not take the attention away from its furniture, decoration and architectural elements. It blends in fantastically with any surroundings and subtly complements the interior design of a room..

The embellished edging (border) forms a excellent contrast to the center and creates a transition at the edge of the rug.

The background of this Bidgene is blue gray. The colors dark blue and olive green dominate the overall impression. The border features dark blue, olive green and blue gray. The olive green center combines the colors dark blue and blue gray.

Condition

This Bidgene has had admirers before you. It was hand knotted about 1930. It has been thoroughly cleaned and only partially restored condition but is in good condition. We have not completely restored this Bidgene because we think it is as it is effect. If you would like, we will of course restore the rug further for you. We can restore almost any rug to an almost perfect condition.

Material

The pile of this Bidgene has been hand-knotted from high-quality virgin wool. Virgin wool is obtained through the gentle shearing of sheep. Virgin wool is a sustainable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties; due to the wool's natural fat content, the surface repels water droplets and is thus naturally impervious to dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on living climate and muffles sound. The weft and warp threads of this Bidgene are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.
